I Hate Carving Pumpkins

Today we signed up for GUTS, an annual pumpkin carving competition that unifies our creative community in support of Make-A-Wish and the kids who fight the real fight everyday. This will make our third year bringing our 3-person team to the event. But I have a confession to make: I. Hate. Carving. Pumpkins. BUT, I’ll do it for the kids. And maybe the fact that it is just a fun event that creates some healthy competition among Charlotte’s most creative (did I mention that there is beer involved too?).

Lunar Lunches

As many of you probably already know, the Moonlighters gather for “family lunch” on Tuesday afternoons. We each have an assigned week where it’s our responsibility to prepare the day’s meal for the crew. Family lunch provides an opportunity for us to review projects, prepare for upcoming events and just talk. We talk about everything from our families to the weekend activities – we think it is important that we all connect outside of our project lists and deadlines and what better way to commune than over some good ol’ home cookin’? Not to mention we all love to cook. Can you tell our designer brains stay turned on with our plate presentations?

Why is Visual Hierarchy Important in Design?

The food pyramid, royal family and Maslov’s hierarchy of needs – what do all of these things have in common? 

Each of these things has a structure for organization based on importance. The food pyramid tells us that more fruits and vegetables are better for us than maxing out on carbs; doctrine tells us that Kings are more powerful than Princes; Maslow tells us that we first must fulfill our physiological needs before we fulfill our desire to be respected and accepted socially.
